Haiti is a country located on the island of Hispaniola.The population is about
10,485,800. About one third of Haiti's population is under 15. Haiti Won independence in 1804 making it the second country in the Americas, after the United States, to free itself from colonial rule. Did you know that Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere? Every year thousands of people migrated from Haiti to other countries such as Cuba and Dominican Republic.
More than 70 different dictators ruled Haiti between 1804-1915. Also, Haiti's shores are rough and rocky.Haiti is 27,750 sq. km in size, which is slightly smaller than the state of Maryland and roughly equal to the state of Vermont.
